A Cappella Music
One of my favourite genres of music is a cappella, which is singing without any instrumental accompaniment. From taking MUSIC 100, I learned that a capella is very old and dates back to the Renaissance period. I remember listening to Gregorian chants and they sounded superb. Nowadays, contemporary a cappella is much richer and fuller. It takes a lot of skill to organize and sing a cappella pieces. These are the three groups that I know of and I really enjoy their music:
Ball in the House – A group growing in popularity from Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Cadence – An internationally recognized group from Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Rockapella – A very popular contemporary a cappella group from Providence, Rhode Island, USA
I’m sure there are many more groups making great music out there, but they are simply not getting enough exposure. A cappella is definitely not mainstream, but these performances are amazing. You’ll have to see for yourself. Check out this link for contemporary a cappella videos: CASA – A Cappella Video Clips.
